Fat Loss 4 Idiots (FL4I) uses a method called "calorie shifting" which basically means some days you have low calories and some days are higher calories.

The theory is that the higher calorie days keep your metabolism humming along, while the lower calories days allow you to lose fat quickly.

This approach is nice because the higher calorie days help you avoid cravings and constant hunger, which prevents you from burning out too quickly.

But the real downside is that all of this "calorie shifting" means that you have to constantly count calories.
